Now that sound theory on preparation, basecoats, glaze, and glazing techniques have been achieved, we can accelerate into different materials and open up hundreds of avenues. Each materials theory will cover its origin, possibilities, and correct uses. Each material can achieve hundreds of different looks, especially when combining several different materials. Some of the portfolio finishes in Fundamentals II include: Faux Block (using AquaBond™, AquaGlaze®, and AquaCreme™ with AquaColor™), Custom Art Imprint™ transfer covered with clear crackle and glazed with either AquaCreme™ and Color or AquaGlaze®. A Red Leather technique achieved with Leather Red AquaBond™ and AquaCreme™ with AquaColor™. Metallic AquaColor™ and AquaCreme™ over a darker board. A sample using Designer Metallics™ either as a base for glazing, in AquaGlaze® (over an AquaBond™ base), or a combination of the two. An AquaStone™ sample with 2 different techniques and a color wash with AquaCreme™ and AquaColor™. A three coat LusterStone™ sample, using either one color, different colors layered, or a multiple color mix. A Palette Deco™ board with at least for different methods of application. The materials covered in this class include AquaCreme™, AquaColor™, Metallic Colors, Clear crackle, Custom Art Imprints™, Designer Metallics™ basecoats, AquaStone™, AquaCrackle®, LusterStone™, and Palette Deco™. AquaCreme™ ![]() AquaColor™ is a water based resin combined with non organic ground pigments. It is used straight from the bottle or diluted with AquaCreme™ or AquaGlaze®. All AquaColors™ retain their color identity – even when mixed together. When mixed with AquaCreme™ as a color additive, artisans may achieve glazing effects with slower drying times. AquaColor™ dries to a hard durable finish on its own. All Aqua products can be tinted with AquaColor™. AquaColor™ is perfect for creating extraordinary faux and decorative finishes, murals, stencil projects, floor cloths, marbles, wood grain, and sky effects. AquaColor™ is fade resistant, VOC compliant, low odor, durable on its own, soap and water clean up, chemical resistant, and interior/exterior rated. AquaColors™ have a metallic line producing metallic accents to your glazing finishes. For a pearlescent look try the hi-lite colors alone or add to AquaCreme™. Custom Art Imprints™ save a ton of time on reproduction of art. There are hundreds of images to choose from in full color and sepia tones. Imprints actually embed into the imprint basecoat, leaving no detectable edges. Images include architectural elements, birds, animals, cherubs, Egyptian motives, fish, floral, leaf and vine assortments, borders and scrolls, faux tile and many more. Imprints are as easy as, applying a basecoat, placing an image, and burnishing. A top coat is necessary. Imprints can also be layered with decorative glazing, crackles, and aging washes to create gorgeous, painted effects. Clear crackle and glazing is taught in Fundamentals II. Designer Metallics™ ![]() AquaStone™ is a textured material made from actual marble dust in an acrylic resin. Olde World Italian and South Western walls are easy to duplicate with this dimensional product. Create stucco patterns, limestone walls, blocks, bricks or use it on wrought iron for an old crusty look. AquaStone™ is perfect for embossed stenciling projects. It has great body and holds its shape when troweling or stenciling. It has great bonding properties, is VOC compliant, a durable finish, resists fading, soap and water clean up, and is interior/exterior rated. LusterStone™ is a decorative architectural trowel on coating which produces beautiful, natural reflective stone patterns. This radically new product is unsurpassed in its ease of use because LusterStone™ does the work for you; no burnishing required for designer quality results. This revolutionary material can be used to produce a wide variety of dull or high sheen dimensional finishes as well as stunning combinations of highs and lows. This substance is so versatile and simple to repair and apply, that it is many decorators’ first choice for professional quality and predictable results. LusterStone™ is designed to be a fill and finish coat. It can be applied on irregular surfaces such as iron work and fixtures as well. Work can be stopped and started at any time without dry lines. It is VOC compliant, low odor, easily troweled on (great for beginners), soap and water clean up, versatile, and durable. Palette Deco™ is a durable water based paste-like material. It is a decorative finishing product that does not require a topcoat. Palette Deco™ can be brushed, rolled, or sprayed, as well as applied by trowel, spatula, or palette knife. Palette Deco™ Metallics and pearls have excellent reflective qualities when dry. A variety of application techniques are possible, including some expensive embossed patterns creating detailed embossed stencils, sophisticated stripes or dazzling combed effects. Palette Deco™ is VOC compliant, low odor, soap and water clean up, interior/exterior rated, and an extremely durable finish on its own. There is extensive theory on each material as we cover it and layer each board. |
